Disinfect air and water with low-mercury “green” lights

A high-output (800mA), low-mercury (≤ 8 mg) UVC lamp for disinfecting air and water in commercial and residential environments is introduced by American Ultraviolet Company. These easy-to-dispose of “green” lamps, which are also available as standard output (425mA) lamps, have been tested and validated to effectively perform for 17,000 hours (two years) when operated on high-frequency electronic ballasts also from American Ultraviolet Company.

“Specifiers and facilities engineers have requested a low-mercury UVC lamp that can be disposed of in normal land fills without being treated as hazardous waste,” said John Andros, COO of the company, in a press release. “Though previously available as soft-glass germicidal standard output (425mA) lamps, we now can offer our customers low-mercury, (≤ 8 mg), high-output (800mA) lamps, which are considerably more effective at quickly cleaning up mold-laden and fouled coils, thus increasing HVAC operating efficiency and equipment life, and, of course, improving indoor air quality through pass-by disinfection of airborne viruses and bacteria.”

High-output, low-mercury UVC lamps are available for numerous germicidal products from American Ultraviolet Company, including the CC, CC-R, DC, TB, and Mobile Room Disinfection Series commercial units. UVC Germicidal Lamps provide safe, direct exposure to 254nm UVC radiation, which, when given appropriate exposure time, inactivates the DNA and RNA of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, mold spores, yeast and protozoa), making them unable to reproduce.

Since 1960, American Ultraviolet Company has manufactured ultraviolet equipment for the disinfection of air, liquids and surfaces throughout the world. See www.americanultraviolet.com .

Des Moines Federal Building honored for performance, innovation and
excellence in façade renovation

WAUSAU, Wis.—The Des Moines Federal Building’s recently renovated façade was honored with the 2006 Master’s Award in the $10 million category. This prestigious, annual award is presented by the Master Builders of Iowa (MBI), a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, to only one project in the state. The winning project and team is selected for best demonstrating the characteristics of performance, innovation, excellence and responsiveness to client needs.

Des Moines-based general contractors Neumann Brothers Design Build Solutions replaced the existing exterior of the fully occupied, 61,000-square foot, 11-story building with a new, structurally sound, energy-efficient, blast hazard mitigating façade manufactured by Wausau Window and Wall Systems. Along with modernizing the 1960s-style building, Detroit-based SmithGroup’s architectural concept transformed the GSA-operated facility into a more vibrant component of the flourishing city.
