HHS awards Mathematica more than $6 million
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Disability has announced the award of more than $6 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, to establish a Center of Excellence in Research on Disability Services, Care Coordination and Integration.
The contract has been awarded to Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. for a two-year period and is aimed at building the infrastructure necessary to support and conduct research on the effectiveness and comparative effectiveness of systems of care for people with disabilities.

Joint Commission honors Tucson Medical Center

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.—The Joint Commission and the American Case Management Association (ACMA) have announced that the case management services program of Tucson Medical Center, in Tucson, Arizona, is the winner of the 2010 Franklin Award of Distinction.
Tucson Medical Center’s case management services program is distinctive in that it encompasses the entire hospital, with case managers acting as full members of the management team on patient care units. Tucson Medical Center’s use of a case management council to discuss practice issues and raise the issues with managers and volunteers also showed they have a strong commitment to patient care.

AHA honors volunteer hospital programs
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Hospital Association (AHA) honors four hospital volunteer programs with the Hospital Awards for Volunteer Excellence (HAVE). Honorees are:
- Community Service Programs: Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program, Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, N.C.
- Community Outreach and/or Collaboration Programs: Knapp Medical Center Auxiliary, Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas
- Fundraising Programs: "Text for 10 ", Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J.
- In-Service Hospital Volunteer Programs: NoOne Dies Alone - ComfortCompanions, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Mich.

AHA gives Distinguished Service Award

RWJF invests in healthcare quality
PRINCETON, N.J.—The Central Indiana Alliance for Health and The Greater Boston Quality Coalition (GBQC) have been selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to participate in Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q), an unprecedented effort to lift the quality of health care provided in select communities nationwide.
The largest health care philanthropy in the U.S., RWJF is investing up to $300 million in long-term commitments to improve the quality and equality of health care in America. Central Indiana joins 16 other select regions that are coordinating efforts to improve the quality of health care at hospitals and in doctors’ offices, reduce racial and ethnic disparities in care, and provide models for implementing national reform.
